She became more about the image and less about the music, thus becoming a caricature of herself.
She's a mess and her ego is out of control. So the disaster that's 'Born This Way' serves her right. I can't believe she called this album the best album of the decade. This must be a huge slap in her ugly face.
Oh, and theres the obvious and PATHETIC pandering to the Gay community with that insult and crap tribute to Express Yourself called Born This Way.

album wise Gaga did well, but EVERYTHING else was a mess. The image, the hype, singles, videos were just tragic. The era could have been handled better if everything wasn't so half assed and rush released.

Just to clear it out there, Born This Way didn't flop.
You can call it a flop when only 13 copies of the album are sold a week.

But no, "Bad Kids" would've been a smash.
"The Edge of Glory" should have been the lead single in February. Released the album in May with "Judas" out in the Summer. Then "Schiesse", "Bloody Mary", tour and then new album. Smash era.

They should've released the album sooner, rather than 3 months after.

A 3 month-gap between the first single & album release is awful.
Sales > Radio, & all Judas needed was a video to shoot up from #30 on iTunes back to #9 or #8 or wherever it got before TEoG booted it.

OVERHYPE
Sorry, but many people were turned off by some of the quotes being made before the album.I'm not saying she shouldn't hype it,I'm saying that she shouldn't set people's expectations so high to a point where people are surely going to be disappointed.
Also some of her single choices were bad.....
All in all I LOVE BTW but that's what I think happened.Who Knows????

Not even shading anyone in particular, but I'm convinced if you put a green wig and cute pumps on an inanimate object and gave it one Top 40 Dr. Luke or RedOne single, you will see threads praising and stanning for it, comparing it to Michael Jackson and how they're slayed by its good personality

I guess the huge hype it had was the main reason why it went wrong in some way, I mean yh the album was the 2nd best selling from last year but the most of its sales came from the first 2-3 weeks, after that it went downhill, the rush between Judas-TEOG, releasing Judas as 2nd single. I guess those were some of the reasons why it kinda went wrong as the OP said.

Yeah, the song is trash. But it is the most remembered song of this era.

It was just not the time to release it. They had just released controversial BTW and Judas on its heels was just not a good combo - i suppose Gaga thought she could get away with anything though after BTW did so well with those lyrics.
TEOG couldve been bigger than BTW mark my words had it been released after BTW directly. It had amazing longevity as it is and if had been released right after BTW it would have enjoyed a peak similar to BTW in addition to the amazing longevity. Tbqh i don't think TEOG video did much to kill momentum. sure, it didn't give the push the song needed but it in no way held it back.
And besides Judas' release, the other big thing Gaga needs to learn from next era is TIMING. everything has been wrong with timing this era tbh.. i mean 5 singles in less than a year? that should be avoided at all costs

Right?!!? Didn't we have the 3rd single before the album even dropped?

A pop artist created an album that wasn't exactly "pop" and it sold millions around the world, with moderate-above average single success. I don't see the problem.
