Let me just say that to those of you who think Madonna was being "nice" that that is complete ********. To be fair, Madonna has been pretty civil the majority of the times she's been asked about Lady Gaga, and I'm sure that if I were her I'd be annoyed with being asked the same question too. It's pretty clear that while Madonna did say that "She's she and I'm me" that she clearly does not like Gaga at all, especially after the Born This Way fiasco. They may have been friendly and chummy during their SNL skit and around that time, but I'm sure as time went on with The Fame Monster having songs like Dance in the Dark and the Alejandro video being clearly influenced by Madonna, and then of course the Born This Way/Express Yourself controversy that Madonna has become increasingly bothered by Lady Gaga. And it doesn't help that the two are repeatedly compared to one another, with many news outlets over the past two years claiming Gaga is the so-called "next Madonna." So it's not surprisingly that Madonna has been at least annoyed by the press and somewhat bothered by Gaga's work itself.
What really surprised me was that Madonna actually commented on it. She said that " sometimes" she finds it amusing and flattering and well-done (obviously implying that sometimes she doesn't). Further, she said that she "can't really be annoyed" by it because "obviously [she] influenced her" which basically implies, arrogantly on Madonna's behalf, that Madonna can't hate on Gaga because Gaga's work is so much like her own, which virtually means she's calling Gaga a copycat. And of course calling Born This Way a "redo" and "reductive" when compared to the supposed original "Express Yourself" (though certainly the Staple Singers would have something to say about that) makes it even more clear that Madonna has gotten irritated with Gaga and probably isn't too fond of her.
All in all, I just think it looks bad on Madonna's behalf to comment so bitterly nearly a year after this was a "hot topic." I understand that she's been asked these questions and hasn't brought them up herself, but she could have easily just answered them much less passive aggressively. I'm not saying this as a Gaga fan, but if I were her manager or PR advisor I would definitely tell her to avoid making these types of backhand remarks to multiple news outlets. I honestly think it hurts her image, when she is already a musical legend and well-respected. Why put that great public image in jeopardy? But that's just my opinion.
In any case, Gaga should and most likely will keep quiet. In a news world where females are incessantly pitted against one another and sexism pervades not only the media itself, but the public reaction to it, it's just better for both of them to not make this into a bigger deal than it already is

I can't at the Vadge stans excusing Madonna's cattiness because she's "the Queen of Pop." Being respectful and down to Earth is an admirable quality of a superstar in the GP's eyes. Do you think people would still be in love with Betty White if she was just some bitter old granny? Or if Meryl Streep looked down on aspiring actresses? The nice bit of the video made for good controversy, the ending made her look nasty and only idiots would excuse that. If she wants to revamp her image for the herself, this is not the way to do it.

omg, I don't know if this has come out already, but I just saw a BBC advert for the Graham Norton interview, and Madge was talking about how Grahams dog was called Madge, and what his other dog was called, and when he said Bailey, she said 'what, not Gaga?'

Stop trying to make madonna something she's not. She's never been the respectable cookie cutter popstar, she never will be. She's a bitch, she always will be, she says what she wants, when she wants, how she wants, and just because some gaga stans have a problem with it, dosent make it some incredibly wrong thing. She was this way during her blond ambition days, and everyone loved it and nobody gave a ****, so what's the problem now? Oh that's right, it's gaga we are talking about, so it's so so bad.
Give me a break.

I don't care about what type of superstar Madonna is, the excuses in this thread were just ridiculous. This looks like a much better excuse than most of the others, so kudos.

It's amazing how naive some gaga stans are. Madonna has always been this way. If people thought it was so overly rude and disgraceful, she wouldnt be here today. Point blank period. Stop with these paragraphs about how 'bitter" and "pressed" she is, when in fact, she is just being herself.

It's not an excuse, it's fact. It happened to Mariah Carey, did it not? Madonna's a shady bitch and that's that, if anything, your excuses are tiring. Just deal with it.
