She didn't magically popped out of nowhere.Her hype has been going on from early this year,especially from July. Pitchfork named Video Games as "Best New Track" in August.
This ATRL mania over her may have started a weeks ago but her internet buzz has been going on for quite some time.

It's no more stupid than claiming payola exists (which it does). The labels definitely will resort to back-handed pay-offs if it means a better ROI.

This discussion just shows how slow and ignorant some POP fans are. So, in order to be placed on year end lists you have to be well known and successful artist?! Otherwise it is more plausible that your label has paid every f**king blogger. Some of you guys are really hysterical.
Of course hype is made and labels use media to generate hype. But you need the material to get it really going. NO artist becomes known and successfull just out of nowhere.
But when an artist like Lana Del Rey gets pushed by a label and hyped by the media I am more than ok with it.
