I made this thread because the thread dealing with Keri. Keri is African american singer like Ameriie, Ashanti, Brandy, Kelis, Ciara, Monica, & Keyshia Cole. People always ask them how they feel on Beyonce and if they don't respond oh its their jealous or negative. Why should they promote competition. Why do people feel as if they should respect Beyonce when Ameriie. Ashanti, Kelis, Brandy & Monica all came out around the time Beyonce was out. Yes Beyonce is more successful but that doesn't mean her material is better or people should downplay the other artists influences on the Hip-hop world. I just want your opinion on this. Should they respect her or should they continue to do their things and ignore the haters? I just don't get the hate they always get when they release an album and now people saying oh well those artists fans boycotted bey's music because of their favorites current state. Thats just not true, some people including myself just don't relate to Beyonce music and I'm not saying its bad but I just don't listen to it.

I don't see how most people who like the women of R&B can't relate to Beyoncé's music, when she shares a lot of the same themes as the other ladies in the genre. The rules are always different when it comes to her in both R&B and Pop.

Anyway, if they don't respond, they don't respond. They don't have to like or respect her either. No skin off Bey's back. They won't downplay her talent, tho. Keri is the only R&B chick that has tried it with Bey and it didn't go over too well.

When you have artists like Mary J Blige, Mariah Carey, Tina Turner, Patti Labelle, Anita Baker, Whitney Houston, and many others respecting you, it doesn't really matter if your contemporaries respect you or not anyway.

Besides Keri, I don't see any female R&B artist throwing shade at Beyonce. Most of the girls you named have spoken great things about Beyonce. Some females are not always threatened and each of them had their time to shine as well. As for the media asking them about her, to avoid controversy, they could say something nice... or they could just not speak on her. It's not a crime to dislike or not speak on Beyonce. She doesn't speak on them.

This is where you are mistaking. They are not her competition, she quadruples most of their sales even when she isn't selling 7 million worldwide. They are ALL jealous of her for many reasons and growing up a community like ours, I'm sure you know why. She has become the single most successful African American female entertainer OF ALL TIME, no one can deny that. Doors were cracked half open, she came along and shoved them down without apologizing for it. She sings, she dances, she acts, and she does it all well, and is successful in doing it all. Female entertainers of every color wish they could claim this but they can't, and since were specifically speaking on R&B singers I will keep the conversation aimed at them.

Beyonce started off as one of them, we all know this. BUT, unlike them, she developed her craft into perfection! She didn't stick to the R&B forumla and try to keep her career alive with it like they do. She took risks, she became a performer, and most of all she became INTERNATIONAL, something many of them have not mastered. None of them will ever make a song like Deja Vu, ever in their lifetime, because they aren't as innovative in thinking as she is. She also has the power of appeal that many of them don't use even when they do have it. They can point all the fingers they want, but Beyonce knows what she is doing. People are attracted to what is familiar, so she can be the hood chick, but she can also be the pretty blonde, and that is a power everyone needs, which is why she is probably the most successful at attacking all markets. As for her material being better, she is LIGHTYEARS ahead of the other girls when it comes to music. I am a R&B follower, and Beyonce puts them all to shame and always has. She has critical acclaim for all areas, and has 16 Grammys to back that up, she has the most BET Awards, VMAs, EMAs, and etc....

She seems perfect and that attracts hate.

• Raw talent.
• Lead roles in Blockbuster films.
• An average of 6.75 million worldwide per album.
• Dedicated fans that have stood by her for over 13 years.
• Worldwide acceptance and respect.
• Awards from every important area in entertainment.
• A beautiful face, body, and heart.
• A famous husband.

Not to mention she is one of the few that gets to do things that most R&B singers dont.

She covers magazines they will never get to cover.
She sings at events they will never get to sing at.
She works with producers and artists they will never get to work with.
She sells the amount of records worldwide they will never sell.
She is even portraying an iconic film character usually played by white actresses next year.

They have to constantly sit at award shows and watch her DOMINATE the stage like they know they never can. Beyonce is the EPITOME of what the modern popular entertainer should be. And whether or not people recognize and/or acknowledge that, it is true. And she has all the attributes and accomplishments to back up my claim.

I think I misunderstood your post. I thought you were saying that Bey gets to do certain things (like singing for the president) just for being her (and better than other R&B singers), when you were talking about why people are jealous.

Female R&B Singers ARENT jealous of Beyonce...most of them respect her, whether they're her contemporaries, the new girls or the ladies of the past...Mariah, Mary, Whitney, Patti, Tina, Anita, Alicia and most of the other girls have praised Beyonce before...the only girls I've seen pressed nature from were Keri(directly) and Brandy(indirectly) and they're pressed and even if they werent pressed they're non-factors.

The reason that women are asked about Beyonce is because she represents the total package, there is no female in history that is more talented than her, she does everything good if not great AND she is extremely successful while still making R&B and Urban Pop with massive Hip-Hop influence. Women are asked about her because she sets the standard for what a female R&B singer should be.

But no, I think most respect her, I can appreciate girls that dont like her saying "no comment" because it isnt law to like Beyonce but what cant you like about her tbh?
