Jessica switches labels, next CD more "R&B"
Jessica Simpy-son Switches Labels
March 24, 2006, 4:10 PM ET
Melinda Newman, L.A.
Jessica Simpson has shifted from Columbia, for which she's recorded since 1999, to Epic Records. As previously reported, the artist is working on the follow-up to 2003's "In This Skin," which has sold 2.9 million copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan.
The as-yet-untitled set is expected before the year's end, but in the meantime, a source says an R&B-oriented first single is "not far away at all." Among the producers contributing to the project are Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis, Cory Rooney and Scott Storch.
Simpson's move from Columbia to Epic, both of which fall under the Sony Music umbrella, mirrors that of new Epic president Charlie Walk, who formerly was executive VP of creative marketing and promotion for Columbia Records Group.
"I love all my friends and supporters at Columbia. I will miss them as I start this new relationship," Simpson tells Billboard. "Charlie Walk was my first hero at Columbia. He believed in me before I really even got to meet the rest of the company. I couldn't think of anyone I would trust more than Charlie to present my new music to the world. Epic is in a new place with a new leader. It just seems the right place for me as I begin my new journey."

Well if it worked for others, why not Jessica? She had one of the biggest singles just a few years ago so why not try to mix it up?
I just hope it's better than ...Boots.

I read this over at Pulse yesterday, interesting news. Lets hope the "shift" to Epic is a good one. Columbia did not do her well. The promotion for "Sweet Kisses","Irresistible", & "In This Skin" was half-assed. Another bit of wishful thinking is for "Fired Up" to not be the first or second singles.

Jessica shouldn't do R&B. Really, pop is her thing.

Do you actually think Jessica would make a straight foward R&B album ? If you do...
But anyway, it'll be R&B-induced pop. Similar to Mariah Carey's music and a few others.

I prefer Jessica in her 'irresistable' phase more than any other so I think i'll love this album when it comes out. I really hope 'fired up' isn't her first single though, unless they've tweaked it since it leaked.

Does anyone think Trevor Cold is a sociopathic poster who just copies and pastes what everyone else says or perhaps he can't speak English so he says what little bit he knows...?

Well, I don't think he's a poser insomuch as he's a self-hating homosexual. Which seems to be a common trait for fans of rock music at ATRL?

On topic: This album is going to be to music what Basic Instinct 2 will be to movies. I AM SO EXCITED!!!

Oh no, I wish she would come back to her Irresistible style... Anywayz, I don't know, but something tells me she's going to flop this time.

OH!!!! You are SO off my buddy list!
It really doesn't matter if she makes the best album in the world (not like thats going to happen of course), without her reality show creating hype I just can't see her doing well. She was decent in the Irresitable stage, but I doubt her trying to capitalize on that style again because it didn't do much for her charts wise if I recall.

I'd love to hear Jessica "edge" up her sound a little bit via r&b. And I also agree with whoever said that Columbia half assed most of Jessica's releases. That is ABSOLUTELY true! Columbia always tends to barely help out established artist on their roster. I mean, they sucked with DC throughout their whole DF comeback. So yea, hopefully we have something to look forward to with Jessica's next release!
