People are forgetting the (brilliant, record breaking) UK sales, and just concentrating on the (not brilliant, not awful) US sales. -sigh-
Well she has been damn near living in the UK, so no one is surprised she succeeded there. The shocker here is that she has the #1 song in the entire country and couldn't sell 200k during the biggest Black Christmas in history.

I have to agree with some girls that American seems to be not here for Riri
I went to the CD store, I saw Beyonce's CD titles everywhere and a bunch of Adele's 21 (really a lot ).
They hided Rihanna's CDs somewhere. It took me a while to figure out where was Talk That Talk in its release week
She is only 27k from getting that #1 album, some promo woulda done the magic. Dej Jam really don't understand how important promo is to album since many people don't even know this bitch releases a new album.
50k coulda easily added to her total sales had she promoted abit.
Let’s pretend Bee’s career was like banking. Everything we’ve watched Bee do over the years has been like a deposit into a bank account. When she has moments where things don’t pan out exactly the way she wants or a certain single doesn’t meet certain expectations, she’s good. All the deposits over the years ensured that if “the check was short this week”, she was still comfortable. Basing a career on singles and chasing cookie cutter radio formulas is like living check to check. You ain’t worth **** but what’s going on right now. There’s nothing memorable. There’s nothing iconic. 18 years of healthy deposits. And now she’s sitting back CHILLING.
Yes she is..she hardly did any promo in those countries either but still managed to get a chart positions and most of these aren't final. Again what artist can announce that they are going to release new album on twitter while the previous one is still fresh, in three months drop it and still manage to get respectable chart positions globally with hardly any promo? Be fair now
i am being totally fair.. this is the current queen of pop we are talking about here. she should have been able to notch top 3's in most, if not every market even without promo (and since when was having the #1 song in the entire WORLD for weeks not promo?). these #20-30 something debuts are very disappointing and unexcusable.
fair enough , if i were you i would only want to talk about the US sales too
Ok let's talk WW then. Trust I will drag your fave across the Atrl server if TTT doesn't do more than 2 million WW in its fourth week. The navy is so funny, to think I was starting to feel bad for some of them.

Approaching a song rhythmically, rather than melodically, is something synonymous with Beyonce/DC and probably her claim to fame in respects to the question being posed.Of course CIL pretty much popularized "Go-Go" in popular music. The only other notable "Go-Go" song prior to CIL is "Doin' The Butt", and that was 1988.
An argument could be made that Beyonce is the one who popularized the heavy Urban/Hip-Hop driven backing with R&B outside of the US. "Deja Vu", "Drunk In Love" (in time), and CIL just to name a few.

The funny thing is every time Rihanna debuts with a new album and it misses the top spot there is a new speculation as to why it didn't hit #1 by the Navy.. now it's because her fan base is bigger in the UK then in the US. Yet............ she has 11 #1 singles in the US I am missing the logic girls.
