This year's show didn't do it for me. It had its standout moments but overall it was very lackluster, desperate, annoying, and messy. In terms of quality I have to put 2010 > 2011.

Best part was beyonce and her baby.

Chris Brown is a great dancer, but if he's not singing, nothing really sets him apart from his dancers or the many other background dancers who are just as good or better.

Britney's tribute was sad.

Lady Gaga was confusing. She broke character too much and I couldn't tell if she was talking as herself or the guy.

Lady Gaga didn't copy Annie Lennox in the whole idea of what is performance: you see, Annie Lennox trademark appearance was that of an androgynous woman. She never stated she was playing the role of a man. Indeed, her role was that of an androgynous woman. But Gaga came as Jo; Gaga's trademark appearance is that of a feminine artist whose idea of fashion style, music and artistry is based on avant-gardism. Jo is a full male, he's a homeboy, a macho, he's a man. He's not an androgynous woman. The idea of going as Jo to the VMA's is the ultimate explanation of what Born This Way means: you can be reborn (if you are born again, you surely come as a new person) as many times as you want because it is in you the inherent potential to become what you want to become. So, this is an endless birth: because there will always exist moment in your life that you feel like 'you need to change', that you need to be born again.

Annie Lennox drag was not a statement, it was merely a way to make the viewer question himself what gender she was, or what we consider that a female or a male must be. Jo's objective wasn't that: Jo is in the beginning of his speech stating that he is a man. The idea that you are born again also means that you believe so profusely that you actually convince others that you are a whole different person. He's objective isn't the same as Lennox's drag: his mission is to clarify and state what I said before and won't be tired of repeating: Jo's objective is an archetype of the dozens and billions of people that you could choose to become.

This show was a dreadful disaster. Aside from Jo, The Throne, Bey and (ugh) Adele, this show should've been hastily aborted.

The apathy after Katy's VOTY win, however, was as delicious as a Venezuelan face-lift.

Chris should've at least pre-recorded fake live vocals, because child he was a hot mess pretending like he was singing that song.

What was so special about him? It was as good as any of his back up dancers considering he didn't sing.
