There is nothing new about this, that's for sure. However, people saying 'divas of the 90s/80s did it too' forget that those people could sing. Rihanna's vocals do not best Whitney, Celine, or Mariah....
Even Britney Spears, who like everybody else was re-imaged, had some form of musical ability. Rihanna, at most, just has a very distinctive voice. Rihanna's appeal is based on the fact that she is 'exotic' and makes friendly music.
She is not the first, and she won't be the last. People don't really seem to care that much either, in terms of supporting her singles and videos. Just looking at the business side to the industry, Rihanna isn't doing much of anything wrong really. Problems begin to rise when you factor in 'talent,' 'musician,' or 'artist.'

What envy? He said he liked her music. She's easily one of my favorite artists but let's be real, her A-list team is a HUGE reason her music is so amazing & infectious. As long as she doesn't write her music, she will have to face this type of criticism, which is why I really wish she would start actually writing more of her own work.

Agreed, and the difference between the quality of her music where he has some form of writing credits is quite substantial e.g. Rated R. She has so much potential but fails to fulfill it.
