No, they actually don't.

Coldplay's buzz has faded away and they are clearly not on Grammy radar. One Direction is actually on the Grammy radar and could rack up a few nominations including Best New Artist.

Gaga didn't deserve any Grammys for Born This Way.

I agree w/ you, Loghen. Frank has definitely moved a step forward in the race while Gotye has lost a ton of buzz. I'm really wondering if Gotye will be the big snub in Best New Artist.

For "Album of the Year" they do imo. They may get a nomination for BNA, but only to appease the fans (ex. Bieber).

Frank's buzz will die soon, if he doesn't release any big singles. I think Fun. is the front-runner for BNA. They have had an enormous single, average album sales, and a new rising top 40 hit.

I think Frank's buzz will be just fine, especially if he gets a slot on SNL this fall. I don't think fun. will be that big of a Grammy favorite. They just don't have that appeal. Hits don't really put you in frontrunner status here. There are too many examples to prove that.

I'm kind of feeling that this year, Ellie's getting the Corinne Bailey Rae treatment while Carly's getting the Vanessa Carlton treatment. They'll both get into Song and Record, but only Ellie will get into New Artist.

Both 2 Chainz and Meek Mill have albums coming this month. However 2 Chainz technically isn't a new artist. Big Sean seems like the biggest possibility seeing as he's had two hits one being top 10 and a gold album and he won the bet award for best new artist. Azealia Banks could sneak in. Maybe even wale depending on the criteria.

To get into Best New Artist, you need to have released at least one ALBUM - EPs don't count; gals like Azealia and The Wanted will have to wait until next year.

Gotye has two previous albums, they can't nominate him. and 'Some Nights' is fun's sophomore album.

Some things sis:

Set Fire to the Rain is ineligible for everything but Record of the Year and Short Form Music Video, so your prediction can't happen.

Labels have the option of submitting artists for Best New Artist SIX TIMES in the hopes of a nomination.

The only rule for Best New Artist is that it has to be said artist's BREAKTHROUGH year, and they have to have at least one album's worth of material to be eligible.

99-00 winner Shelby Lynne had released six albums on a major label before she was nominated and won.

Last year's winner, Bon Iver, had one of 2008's most critically acclaimed albums; he won, last year, for his second album, because it was his BREAKTHROUGH in the public eye.

So fun and Gotye are very much eligible.
