Mariah is a great artist and that's it. She's my musical queen and that's what works for me. I don't think Mariah has had more impact on pop music than Madonna, but Madge is one of a kind. It's like comparing different things. Mariah IS one of the most influent artists in a lot of things as well: singing technique and musical style for example. She has nothing to prove.

Plus, Madonna worked her ass out to be considered the Queen of Pop. Mariah never really cared about those things, she just makes her own life.

I can't @ the people just putting her in the R&B box.That's her main and prefered genre,but even to this day her music is still pop oriented at times. People seem to forget that pop isn't just one genre,It's a umbrella genre consisting of others.

Mariah's versatility Is so wide and unparalleled ,till it's hard to just give her one big title and smack it on her.

She's Mostly Hip-Hop and R&B ,but shes done Rock, Soul, Blues , Country, Gospel, Reggae etc..

A title either sticks with you or it doesn't. Mariah really hasn't had a title that sticks with her outside of her fanbase. The closest she comes to a title is "one of THE VOICES." Up there with Whitney (who is the original "THE VOICE") and Celine.

Mariah doesnt have a big pop culture presense like Madonna does. Mariah didnt change music, she is just a really great singer. She was Queen of the 90s perhaps but other than that her impact and influence is very limited.
Madonna is the Queen of Pop and no one is taking that spot. No one. The princesses of pop after her are Britney Spears and Janet Jackson, they were the only 2 real viable competitors to Madonna when they were at their prime.

Gaga is too new to even be in this equation. She doesnt even have a decade in the business yet people are quick to crown her with something. She is just a phenomenon for now
