This was posted in a thread a few weeks ago, and I believe it deserves a nice discussion. It was about calling them "pop girls". They've both been around since the late 90s, and both have had impact, massive success, and in my opinion are legends in their field. Where I'm going with this is, that Madonna, Janet, and Mariah aren't called "pop girls". They've been around for over 20yrs, and have had massive success, and iconic status. They are so important, that pop music would not be the same without them.
I don't think they should be in league of they other newer girls because of this. In my opinion, they've graduated from this title.

They are too far in their careers to be called pop girls, yet too early in them to be called legends.

The title "Pop girl" simply means that they are relevant in today's Pop game. That's all.

I'd put Christina in place of Britney. Christina and B are the most talented and critically acclaimed among all the girls of their generation. Britney, though, is not different from the current popgirls. All of them are only manufactured artists that they're own labels use as cashcows. Britney's just been around longer and sold more. But impact and talent-wise, she's not above them.

But this discussion isn't about Christina, its about Britney and Bey. I'm trying to have a positive discussion, and you are just going to make it negative.

Stop reaching. Britney has more impact then Christina and all these pop girls. And just because she can't screech and scream, that doesn't mean she can't sing. She has an amazing, beautiful, soft voice. And the only reason people think she can't dance is because pre-2005 Britney set the bar so high for herself. She can dance very well, just not compared to her old self. And she can dance better than all these current pop girls. And Britney has creative input on her music, especially In The Zone. Just because she doesn't change one word for a writing credit, that doesn't mean she isn't a talented song-writer. She comes up with the concepts for almost all her videos including the most iconic one, Baby One More Time. And she has written at least a hundred unreleased song. Gerl, bye.

Anyone saying they ain't legends or icons is delusional. They should be called Pop Women.

I consider Britney one of the pop girls still, but not Beyonce. A lot of her music isn't pop and I never really thought of her as a pop girl like the others. She's more multi genre. Britney is still young and making similar music to the current girls so I'll group her in with them.
