Usually when a WP is given for a smiley it's not just for pointless, but also for off topic or flamebait. For example, if someone posts clear flamebait, and then someone co-signs it with a smiley, then the co-signer is also in danger of getting warned.

The most common smiley-only WP is when someone points out that a post got reported or warned and laughs at it. This type of post only clutters up the forum and it's annoying to see, so that's why we discourage this behavior by warning it.

I think it's necessary to give WPs when the smiley or gif is breaking the other rules like flaimbait or whatever. I would never report anyone for it though. Well, I've never reported anyone anyway so..

You should be given a warning point if you report so many posts that do not deserve to be warned.

I don't really care about the gif thing cause I rarely use gifs but I think it's pretty lame to warn someone for that. Sometimes the gif alone IS on topic. Permanent "co-signers" should be warned though.

Yes I think it's fair. It's considered pointless. Aslong as you add some text to it, you'll be fine, but if it's just a "" post, then yes it is reportable.

It's the same as just posting a gif as a response, it's reportable and pointless.

It's not as strict as you think it is. I think mods tend to let it slide once in a while, but if someone reports it, then obviously they're going to have to do something about it, or if a bitter mod that hates you sees it, they're going to warn you for it.

Also I'd like to add, not only is it pointless but it's spamming. Some people who care about their post count way too much use the whole smiley post a lot in every thread.
