I cant wait for another Mariah album. I loved Memoirs but clearly the last two campaigns haven't worked out too well so I'm happy to see her return to more Urban music. Reading through the thread I'm still upset Migrate never got a release, e=mc2 had so much potential and Bye Bye killed it in a hot minute .
This song could have waited to be the 2nd single im not here for her first single to have ft. i want a straight up MC ballad as first single.. i want them power vocals
Mariah's lead singles do fairly well when they are uptempos/midtempos. When she tried a ballad, it flopped (in the USA, anyway):
Vision of Love: #1
"Through the Rain": #81 ----> BALLAD
"It's Like That": #14
"Touch My Body": #1
I kinda understand why she released "Through the Rain" as the lead single in 2002. She was desperate for critical acclaim and I don't blamer her, taking into account how messy 2001 was. But this is not time to release ballads as lead singles. And I hope shes uses a different singles formula this era. Uptempo/midtempo - ballad - midtempo is not working anymore. Uptempo - midtempo - ballad would be a better choice.
Plus, I don't mind her to work with rappers. I have a feeling she will send a solo version of "Triumphant" to pop radio format. I hope I'm right. This is the first time since 2001 a MC's lead single features rappers in its original version. She's changing the formula already.
