I've always thought that Irresistible was a total Britney copy.
Back in those days, all of the pop girls copied Britney because she was the Queen B. Even Christina to some extent (no shade). In the gap between Christina's first album and Stripped she sort of slipped away from the spotlight even though she was doing Latin and Christmas music, and during that time Britney had sexed up her image with Slave 4 U. It almost seemed as if Christina was trying to out-sexy her when she brought out the Dirrty video. But of course, I could be wrong. Christina may have just wanted to do that.
However, it is a fact that all of those pop girls who came out in the late 90's - early 2000's have always lived in Britney's shadow and their labels tried desperately to make them more like Britney because in many ways she was the perfect popstar.

I really agree with this. When Mandy Moore's debut album failed, her label tried to switch up her image a little, and make her look like the innocent Britney. The crazy thing is, all the girls who tried to copy her failed miserably. While Britney got only bigger.

Honestly if Britney didn't come out first and say Jessica, Mandy or whoever else was first; then we would be sitting here talking about how Brit is a wannabe and blah blah is the Queen.
I like Mandy Moore, and it sucks that her label tried to make her like Britney and she was stuck in that category. Xtina has an amazing voice which to me, has always stood her out a lot more.

Not really people make this argument all the time but it's essentially flawed. Christina Aguilera was actually "first" in that she released her single some time around the spring of 1998 with Reflection. RCA was trying to push her as some kind of Hot AC artist back then and were pushing her in international markets like Asia and the US, she just didn't see much success with that and so RCA shelved her. When Britney came out everyone went banana's and freak the hell out and started selling like gangbusters and that's when the record labels started finding their own personal Britney's. People don't realize Britney's impact and it's truly a shame. She changed careers for a lot of pop stars, without Britney, Christina would have been stuck in the backroom at RCA singing background vocals for someone else, Jessica would have been shunned by the Christians who didn't like how big her breasts were and Mandy would be even more irrelevant then she already is. Britney really did change the game for young female popstars. She revived the pop music scene after a massive drought and she's part of the reason why all these pop girls now were given a second look and given a chance. Because Britney revived the hope of finding a big pop star. Record labels back in the 90's were very cynical. They didn't believe in Pop music, they didn't believe in finding a new Madonna, they didn't believe in the teen scene, nor did they really believe that a teen female solo artist could be a lucrative asset to record companies.
But DEATH @ Willa Ford pretending she has more substance and on a higher level than Britney

You want the truth?
Here it is
Manufactured is this hot pop industry
I know cause they tried to do it to me
Don't let them take away your eyes
Be who you are and stop the sweet talkin' lies
And you're never gonna see me lip sync
And you're never gonna see me try to change
Cause I'm not the one who won't break it down
Follow me and you'll see that I'm gonna blow the roof off of this town
Tired of the blondes that look like me Tired of you people saying "Britney"
I'm tired of the pop that should flop that should never be on TV
And in your teen magazines
I'm tired of the crap I take each day
Tryin' to do my songs
Tryin' ta do it my way
I'm tired of the pop that should flop that should never be on TV
And in your teen magazines
Tired of the pop

Exactly! Every time there's a huge breakthrough act out of left field, labels try to cash in on the sensation and find their own version. The next Nirvana! The next Amy Winehouse! The next Adele! It always happens. The rash of teen pop divas in the late '90s and early '00s was directly because of Britney's massive success, plain and simple.

I love this song, and it sounds fresh to this day. I think she was a blueprint to Britney. She laid the ground work for her, and also to an extent the Spice Girls and Hanson.
