It's set many trends. Look at all the popular songs right now and many of them
are influenced by the sound on TD. California Gurls was iconic. Firework was iconic.
Hell even Peacock could be iconic in another way.

Seriously I don't even care about this thread any more but the stupidity of some people here.

Rather delusion of some Katycats...
Anyway, I don't even like Rihanna that much but some things seem obvious...GGGB era opened her doors to fame pople felt that this chick has something more to offer. Ever since GGGB album was released people knew that Rihanna is here to stay (at least for a while) and that her success is global.
Katy - has single sells some people try to say how awesome she is since she topped the king's record but the truth is, she's so irrelevant in comparision to M. Jackson that the record itself isn't that impressive. She had to use some tricks such as remixes and discounts to do that. Michael doesn't need to, cuz he was an unstopable force in music back then. Besides, if Michael was releasing music in digital era probably 80% of so-called ;stars' would have to pack their bags. This era is nothing more that Katy's 5-minute fame, imo. since I don't think she'll be ever able to repeat it.

Imogene, you are so delusional. Why do you think that way about MJ. For instance, I think that he would be popular as much as, let's say, Adam Lambert if he started music career now. But I am not 100% sure, so I won't bring those imagined things up. And please stop with the remixes and discounts, only LFN had that and it already was at #2 for a while, so it's not like it didn't deserve its success. Eventually, it was in the top15 songs of the year, and for example Born This Way wasn't there. And Katy's weeks at number 1 combined are 19, and Michael's 7, so let's not. Number ones aren't all that, but if you really had to bring those things here, you shall deal with the facts. It is so obvious that you are pressed over Katy's success so much. I will give you a friendly advice. If you don't like someone, avoid him/her, you will make your life less complicated.

Teenage Dream
Bigger tour
More impactful singles
More awards
More records
It will pass GGGB in album sales in the US. The only reason it won't WW because the market is smaller

A lot of pressed souls in this thread. Tends to happen when anyone mentions Katy's success.

They are so close in success, honestly. Where Rihanna had more sales, Katy has more singles. And both of them benefit from their time periods. Sales were stronger album wise back then, but the singles market is more robust here. So they are pretty comparable.

The TD singles seemed bigger and more played then the GGBG singles from what i remember. But that's probably only because of the era they are in

 Stop, please.
Back on topic though, eventhough GGGB is a VERY succesful era, I feel like TD was more succesful.
