Black people have no choice but to accept homosexuality unless they wanna keep being portrayed as ignorant and unaware of their own history. It's ridiculous this is even a conversation.

Please prove that the black community has the most closeted gay men. (bury the "down low" term, not here for that).
The nonsense people say about the black community and homosexuality.

I read a poll recently that showed that the black community had slightly higher support for gay marriage than the national average (I think the American average was 54% and African Americans supported it at 56% or something like that). Homophobia is a problem in our society PERIOD!!
|
Prior to Obama's announcement the percentage of blacks in favor of gay marriage was always lower than the national average, someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

Fifty-nine percent of blacks now say they support same-sex marriage, an 18-point jump since the president's announcement of his own support two weeks ago. Fifty-three percent of Americans now believe that same-sex marriage should be legalized, which also marks a substantial spike since 2006, when just 39 percent of those polled thought it should be legalized.

The more black celebrities come out as gay or in support of gay rights, the quicker homophobia in the black community will be diminished.

I think he's referring to the irony of a historically discriminated-against group, now discriminating against another community, the gays.

I, honestly, believe that there wouldn't be a high rate of African-American men on the dl had the Urban community been supportive rather destructive and ignorant toward homosexuality. People should live their life the way they choose, point blank.

I mean I aint tryna start **** im black myself and where I grow up practically all the black people I know are not supportive ( except my friends and the people im close to), especially the older ones. I mean I aint't saying they are the only race that are against homosexuality, every race is against it, homophobia is a issue full stop I just wanted to know peoples opinions on it and if they think that this is a step in the right direction specifically for the black community with terms like " batty bwoi fi dead" and **** like that being used.

You can't be a support of Marther Luther King's teachings and hate gays.
You can't be Black and wanna have other rights taken away.
Do most black people know that Ms. king was a huge gay right supporter?
Did they know that Marther Lurther Kings right hand man on the march to Washington was a gay man?
Did they know that the same laws the wanted in the 60's are the same rights Gays are fighting for today?
Did they know that many white Christians used the bible to promote slavery and anti- interracial marriage the same way they're doing to gay right now? I doubt it.
You can't be black and not support gay right when the gay people played a significant role in blacks civil rights. That these idiots are now benefiting from today.

This farce of painting the black community specifically to be so much more (or ANY more, really) in disagreement with homosexuality is old and needs to be buried already.

Many groups have been historically oppressed. Just because black Americans have experienced slavery does not warrant automatic acceptance of homosexuality or any oppressed walk of life, nor does it make them appear ignorant and unaware of their history.
I believe that homosexuality should be accepted simply because I believe people should love who they want to love as long as they are not hurting anyone. Not because my ancestors were slaves 300 years ago. That's just stupid and reaching.

I won't speak for a community or nation, but I have been exposed to more homophobia from mostly blacls than anything, and yes, I am black. It isn't like everyday though, or a big gap. It is everywhere. I think is is a BIG DEAL in the black community because our black men are the ones filling up prisons YET also the ones out here talking about "****ing hoes" in almost every song when they know they were ****ing ass in jail.
The black and latino community always confuses me sometimes. I will say those two groups because that is why I grew up around. Many people in those two communities do some of the most sinful things and undercover **** but are so quick to throw religion in your face for being brave and not hiding in the shadows about who you are.

Exactly, being gay in Africa is almost a straight prison/death sentence, being shunned by everyone you know.
