to anyone who said yes, I WOULD LOVE TO GET YOUR DRUG DEALERS NUMBER
seriously you think katy will last out gaga?
katy yes she has hits after hits but thats all she'll ever be a hitmaker
gaga has everything a star needs
she can also do other types of genre so when the electro pop goes she will just adapt

Nah. Katy Perry gives off short-term success vibes.
She's definitely smart to capitalize off of the moment, but I wonder how she will follow-up after the "Teenage Dream" era.
Shakira * Britney Spears * Taylor Swift * Simon & Garfunkel * Beyoncé * Marina and The Diamonds

The innaccrucy of it all. How can you say Gaga will adapt to new trends when 10/11 singles she's released have been dance pop songs? Katy's first single out the box was a pop-rock track, she can easily go back to that sound if she needs to. Gaga's first single, however, was a straight up dance song. And if that's not enough ATRL used to rant on about Katy only being able to get hits with up-beat pop songs, and here we are with her sitting in the Top 5 on the Hot 100 with a ballad in the summer. Who plays it safe again? If I were you I'd be more concerned with Gaga's fate on radio. We wouldn't want her to have another Marry The Night chart run.

Her fans aren't going to abandon her, and she's not going to stop making music. Plus, flop singles or not, she's pretty much already pop royalty.

Generic grabs the attention of the public the easiest. No shade, but everything Katy has released to the public is generic and easy to listen to. Marry the Night is experimental and definitely NOT generic, so are you really surprised it flopped
Don't worry about Gaga's chart success. She'll slay everyone's faves with her upcoming album.
This is not your grave, but you are welcome in it.

I fail to see how releasing a ballad in the summer can be determined as "generic". Katy has taken risks with 3 of her 12 singles, and Gaga about 2-3 times with hers, however those risks are still in the genre of dance pop. The user I was replying to clearly stated that Katy would be gone after electro pop died out when in actuality, the majority of her singles have strayed away from that sound while Gaga's hasn't. And by the way, releasing a single and watching it flop is not "experimental". Marry The Night was just a catchy dance track that failed to catch on with the public.

To be realistic, we've seen that Gaga has the ability to stay. People were quick to say Born This Way started out so well because of the hype. Okay, it's been a year. We've heard the album. Total opposite of The Fame. Yet, she remains bigger than ever. Her loyal fan base, an army, has stayed with her.
We have yet to see if Katy could pull this off. Every fan base needs to be tested. Even right now, Katy doesn't have a presence as big as Gaga's.
But they both could flop, and both succeed for a bit!

No.
I like both but I have to say Gaga will more likely than not outlast Katy if she turns a bit of the freaky **** off from this past era, as she has very clearly been doing lately. I rather doubt Gaga will really fade at any time soon, "faded" artists don't sell 6,000,000+ with a "flop" and gross what Gaga is grossing with her tour. Some very big current artists like Katy herself do neither with eras as huge as having 8 US hits and several WW hits.
In regards to risks, "Born This Way" was a mild risk in both content and sound and only smashed so hard because of the hype (and support from much of the LGBT community), "Judas" was a lyrical risk (and because of that underperformed in the US), and "You and I" was a sonic risk - don't tell me releasing a country-rock ballad after 9 dance songs isn't a risk. But I don't think MTN was a risk at all, it would have smashed in typical Gaga style had it been the 2nd single in place of "Judas".

Adele is going to last longer than her, not because of her success. But because people love her voice & music which is timeless.

Yes, they do. The general public enjoy lyrics that are easy, fun and relatable.
Do I need to sit here and type out Marry The Night's lyrics or can we just agree that not everyone in the world has skipped down the streets of New York in a leather jacket because they're a winner.
And my other fave, may I add, wrote a complete album about heartache and suffering which sold over 21 million:

She has slowly been climbing the ladder one Christian Louboutin heel at a time to where she is today.
The other is the complete polar opposite, stormed into the industry with undeniable impact but has noticeably slowed down.
Both ladies started off almost the same time so who do you think will outlast the other

you clearly snorted some bath salts cause the only thing i see is pure bs. have a nice day.

Katy Perry will outlast Gaga.. even if it's only by an album. But neither will last too long.
One is boring and the other is replaceable.
I can see Gaga going away after her next album and Katy going away after her next two.
