Yes they were. But thats not the point, the rest of the album could have been brilliant and it would have still flopped, albums that are complete trash can do well. It depends on the singles, not the album.

The singles weren't well received at all. Elephant got little airplay, Let It Go got virtually none at all.
Positive reviews do help albums sell. It's not just singles that make albums sell at all. Some albums have no hit singles but sell very well. Positive reviews help album sales and Heartbreak on Hold didn't get many positive reviews.
I'm not an Alexandra hater. I have supported her since The X Factor and I thought Elephant and Let It Go deserved to do much better but as a whole Heartbreak on Hold is underwhelming and generic.

It is what it is. Alex seems to have moved on from this and she should rather make her final preperations for her US debut than sticking to this UK flop, even if it's criminally underrated and by far better than her debut album.

I don't get why her label never bothers to do EU promo, both Elephant and Let It Go could have done well here

Radio blacklisted her.. that doesn't mean people didn't like them. For a POP album and for a POP artist like Alexandra who isn't a big name, you DO need hit singles for the album to be a success. The singles weren't hits because they weren't played on radio. Elephant got to number 3 based on nothing at all which shows that people did like the song. No one even knew Let It Go was out , because again, radio had blacklisted her so she got zero airplay. So how was the album supposed to sell? Thats why it flopped, not because of the quality of the music. Like I have previously said, she should be making music more suited to her talent and not just dance-pop songs, but the album isn't bad. If radio had played her the album wouldn't have flopped.

I get u. But Alex is a pop singles artist (mainly due to the lack of ballad/midtempo singles). So no radio is awful. She's had no mainstream support at all. Y'all saw what AirPlay did for Jessie j.

Britney Spears was blacklisted from radio back in 2001 - 2002, her album had no hit singles, yet it sold millions. Yes, of course I know that Alexandra and Britney's careers are totally different but I would think that in this day and age of online music sharing and word of mouth on social media, radio was more crucial back in those days.

People are bizarre though. Most don't use the internet for music scouting. It's still very traditional unless you're on forums or a stan. I saw a lot say that if it wasn't for DS for example, they'd have no idea she has a single out. She got 11k with LIG. Not great but 33k off top 10. All she needed was radio. Namely Capital. They got her singles past 200k, but R1 are needed for 300k + as Jessie J can attest. I hope her networking trip gets her something good. She needs to be totally US based from now on. NOT UK based if possible. US, Europe, Aussie and NZ and then UK in that order.
Watch...if she did make something out of this mess and got a deal and really refocused, she could be big. People did check for her, but the album let them down. If she gets a second chance there is one more chance to get people back. And she needs hardcore beats. Serious beats. Essentially working with Beyonce's producers, Rihanna's and Jay Z's into creating an Alexandra.

I personally think that internet is now the main way people find out about music. People see music videos the day they are released on VEVO, new videos or songs are posted on Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr etc. Music spreads like wildfire online. On radio it is slower and takes more time for a larger portion to hear the song. That's why more and more artists are premiering singles on sites like Soundcloud and VEVO rather than at radio stations.
I do agree that Alexandra's lack of success with this album is partially down to radio not playlisting her, but I also think it's because people haven't been overwhelmed by what they have heard. If she wasn't played on radio, that doesn't mean people haven't heard the song. Many listeners will listen online, some will have seen the music video on music TV channels.

She should try and ask universal. Look at Joe McElderry. He's sold so much more.
