It's my favourite Mariah album. There's almost no vocal acrobatics and unfortunately that's what people with a very narrow minded view of her talent want from her. Regardless, the songs are wonderful, well-written, mature and carefully interpreted.

Through the Rain & Boy (I Need You) were my **** back then. I stan for every one of her albums though, TBH.

Interesting. I think the main reason to why I like the album is because I knew about Mariah before listening to it. She was going through a lot at the time (the years prior to its release that is), and I feel like some of the lyrics are really good and genuine.

Totally agree. Sometimes I prefer it over her earlier work because, as you put it, there are almost no vocal acrobatics.

You do? Even Glitter and Rainbow? And Memoirs also? (I haven't listened to these except from two or three songs from each album.)

I only use the anthem, Through the Rain, the epic whistle on the cover, Bringin' On the Heartbreak, and the life-saver, My Saving Grace. I have to say it's my least favorite Mariah album.

It's top 8 for me. After Mariah Carey, Emotions, Emancipation, Daydream, Butterfly, E=MC2 and Music Box (excluding the Christmas albums of course).

I loooooooved this album when it first came out! Like..every song on it!

Must admit the production was weak..but it was the first album of her that I "felt" since Music Box/Daydream eras..

It's way better than anything she recently released from Touch My Body onwards.
