Modern day R&B (and good creative quality R&B) is being served by The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, Dawn Richard, Jhene Aiko, Melanie Fiona, etc.

It has definitely died down slightly but I think it'll come back.

R&B just isn't mainstream anymore, just like how dance will fade soon. No genres will ever "die" but they won't be "pop" anymore. We've had grunge, teen pop, r&b/hip-hop, and now dance.
