Rihanna > Nicki > Katy.
Tbh, the only thing Katy has going for her is those 5 #1 singles from TD. She hasn't really smashed any records other than that, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.
Nicki can, and she probably will. She knows people aren't liking the new album, so I hope she does more Pink Friday/Beam Me Up Scotty.
Rihanna has been around for... 7? years. She's obviously doing something right. Nobody will ever forget Umbrella.

Nickis hip hop success isn't as much of a "success" as you make it out to be though... She was big during her mixture days when she had massive hype. If Nicki was as big of a success as you make her out to be she would be like Adele and bring an extremley unpopular style of music into the top 10 or even top 5. What was her closest urban track? MFL? All of her top 10's have been pop music... That's not rap success...

If Nicki returns to her rap roots she just might do it so don't discredit her too early.

Adele practically makes pop music... She has some soul songs on her album, but she did not release those. If anything, the only reason Adele found massive success with her singles is because of the general public warming up to different genres, much like We Are You and Somebody That I Used to Know's success. Also, I never made Nicki's success out to be as great as Adele's, because it isn't.
And Nicki still has rap success. Beez in the Trap is in the top 10 on Billboard's Hip Hop chart, and PF: RR is #1 on the Hip Hop Albums chart.

Nicki is ridiculed by the hip-hop world already...and she hasn't seen NEAR the success katy/rihanna have. People are just pressed @ katy, as usual.
her and Rihanna already are household names and will be icons

Rihanna will be an icon. Katy and Nicki, I'm not sure about. We'll have to see how it plays out. Nicki would probably have a better chance if she sticks with her rap roots but continues to cater her Pop audience as well.

Icon status isn't only based on chart success, though.
Rihanna will be remembered; she has iconic songs, iconic media attention, critical success, and is still going strong.
Katy, however, has none of the above, honestly.

I didn't mean just the genres, I meant smashing with blues, soul, and mainly ballads. You're saying Nicki's success is bigger than Katy's, I mean it's the hip-hop chart, don't Rick Ross and T Pain top that **** ? When she has a majority of hip-hop songs massively smash with the GP then you can say her success was bigger than Katy's, because Katy is a pop star and that is the most prominent form of music. In order for Nicki to be more iconic for being a hip hop star in a pop world she would have to achieve more success than her on the Hot 100 (an overall representation of all genres) and have 6 #1 singles from 1 era. I don't see that happening.

You know I love to bash on rihanna sometimes for fun (even though I love a lot of her music) and I think she is the only one to reach icon status. She never stops working, looks great, is controversial at times, and has catchy songs.

Basically, my Nonna and Nonno got mad at her NYE performance, they were like "WHY IS TRYING TO BE LIKE THE GAGA?" and they're the most unbiased people I know. You always hear "this sounds like a Katy song... They ripped her off!" same thing with Rihanna. When do you ever hear "this sounds like a Nicki song!"
