That doesn't make sense though.....you don't have to pay the artist you're covering if you're doing it live and not selling the recording. Every artist covers songs but doesn't have to pay royalties.

It is good to know they are getting some money, which of course Madonna has plenty, but yes it is indeed funny that some people that stan a twenty something pop star are bothered by what a fifty-something pop star does. It is somewhat transparent in a way.

I am personally glad that when Madonna was twenty something her fans could focus solely on her achievements and did not have to spend most of their time feeling somewhat threatened by an older pop star.

Madonna, at that age, was the biggest thing in female pop and there was no one that could dispute that assessment. This makes evident how different Madonna's path has been compared to the path of other pop stars, and how big and indisputable her impact has been right from the start.
