Idol chose her as a judge because they thought she would be good for the ratings, they could have picked several other people who would have been more qualified for the role, but when it comes to judging slots on a high profile show they are more interested in the profile of the Celebrity rather than their credentials. I'm not saying she doesn't know a thing or two about music, she has her opinions. Also, if you are really going to use Idol as an example, clearly the show doesn't know much about music when the majority of the winners are irrelevant has-beens within a year.

She might have an ear for music and everything, but how much of an experience would Idol give her to go on that business? It's not just about having good musicians and singers signed to your record label, you have to really know everything that goes on behind the curtains. How could she manage the WHOLE process of making an album, promoting, releasing singles and everything that's part of label's job? Having the artist singing the singles on her show won't be enough to get big hits and get platinum albums.

!!! People think they know, but they don't. You don't know her personally, you only know what you are given to see.

And why are people act like ELLEN is the one that will be doing everything? Artists buy out NBA teams, but does that mean they couch them? Jay-Z is the head of Def Jam, but he's not releasing artist's singles, promoting them, etc. That's why you hire people who are skilled in doing the job. The head of a label doesn't do every little process of a singer's career.

To build on what Rico said, Justin Timberlake doesn't directly "control" Esmée. He couldn't. Esmée's home market is the Netherlands and Timberlake has close to no knowledge of that market. There are obviously other people involved who do a lot of work.

She's signed to Justin's label. Outta Here took AGES to get an adds date and when it did, it flopped really bad. Love Dealer only got like 4 adds on its adds date..
