View Full Version : Graphics Questions

If you have any miscellaneous questions on making your own graphics, this thread is for you. Any questions on how to design, edit, post, or host your graphics now go here. Please note, if you are requesting for someone else to make you an avatar or a video capture, see the other sticky threads for that.

#999999
HOW TO REQUEST AN AVATAR

You could pick your victim and request in their personal avatars thread.
If you have someone specific in mind who you want to make your avatar, target their thread right here in the Avatars & Graphics forum, and post a reply asking them to make you one.

Or just make a request in a few thread.
If you don't know or particularly care about any of the people with their own threads, make a request in a new thread, and maybe someone will come along and post an avatar for you.

#999999
STUFF YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE REQUESTING

Here's how to upload an avatar.
Go to your "User Control Panel" at the top, then go to "Edit Avatar". Once you're there, find the "Browse" button, and find the avatar you want to upload. Once you find it, double click it so that it appears in the browse box, and then click "Save Changes".

If you already have a larger image, it can be resized automatically.
Follow the instructions above for uploading an avatar. Once you hit the button to upload it, Absolute TRL will work its magic, and your larger image will automatically be resized down to 125x125 for you. No need to request here!

Hey :)

I've got a question about sigs. Are we allowed pictures in them? I know it says 15 pictures/smileys or less but when I previewed mine just the link to the image came up rather then the picture... plus I've seen that most people only have text and smileys so um... help please

Kworb
5/22/2004, 9:21 PM
No, we don't allow pictures to give the board a more clean look. So only text and smileys are allowed :-!

I know people could disable signatures themselves if they would be bothered by them, but I prefer it like this.

How would you attach a pic on your posts or for a topic?

Mikal
11/16/2004, 3:17 PM
2 ways:

1) Upload your image to something like http://www.imageshack.us/index.php. There gives the code for posting an image which is and you just drop the address between the two. You can also do from picture from the net the same way.

2) If you do a regular post, there is an ption right above "Submit Reply" where you can upload a pic. There is a file size limit on that, though

 How To Make Avatars:

Thanks to Matto For Posting this a while ago :)

First, you'll probably need to download a program called PowerDVD.. this plays the video, and allows you to pause and take captures of it. If you do get this, then here's the steps to make your animation...

First, open the video up. Once you have it playing, find a part of the video that you want to make an animation of. Once you get to this point, pause the video. Open up your Animation Shop 3 at this point, or whenever. Take a capture by pressing the little camera button seen here:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v51/matto417/help01.gif

Once you do this, go to your Animation shop and paste it in there. Then go back to your video. To move the video one frame at a time, click this button:

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v51/matto417/help.gif

Click that twice or three times, and then take the next capture. Then paste it again in the same animation frame as the previous one. Keep repeating this over and over until you have about 20 or so frames. The size depends on how long the animation is and how big you resize it to afterwards.

Once you have your full animation, you have to resize it. I usually resize the width to about 35 or 40, and then the height should automatically change. If your animation is long, then you should try to resize it smaller so that the file size won't be too big. Once you have it resized, you'll probably want borders...

What I do for borders is I'll look at the animation size (say it's 40x40), and open up a new document that is completely black, and 4 more than the length and height of the animation, so in this case 44x44. Then you open up another document that is 2 more than the height and length of the animation, and make the color white. In this case, the size would be 42x42. Save the black and white documents so that you'll be able to drag them. First drag the white onto the black, so that it forms a nice border. Then duplicate the frames by right-clicking "Duplicate Selected". If you have 20 animation frames, then duplicate the white/black document to 20 frames also. Highlight the entire white/black document by clicking the first animation, press the shift key, and click the last frame. Do the same to animation frames. Now, drag the animations frames onto the white/black frames, and you'll have your border.

Now you want a background picture. I just usually find any random picture that looks good in the video.

Matt post this a while ago and i found it so props to him man.

Originally posted by Matto. It takes a little while to learn the tricks of animating letters and doing image transitions and avatar-blends, but you'll get the hang of it eventually, just learn as you go. It's really not too hard, just time consuming, and it can get kind of frustrating.

Try not to save the avatar over and over either, try to do it all at once, 'cuz saving a file as a gif reduces the quality of whatever you're doing, there's no way around that, but yeah, saving it over and over is just gonna reduce the quality more and more each time, so try to avoid that.

Request it in one of the major outlets of Avatar-Making Greatness. But don't annoy the hell out of them, you don't need to have a different avatar like every week. I've had this one for almost two months now.

In the program that you make avatars, or even in any graphic program, just open the file and then go to File -> Save As.. and then instead of the drop down menu at the bottom having png or where the file name is inserted having *.png (* being the file name), just change it to *.jpg or *.gif. Hopefully this helps.
