1-N-Only21 10/17/2007, 3:19 PM Don't worry, guys. "Apologize" will go to #1 next week, and all order will be restored in this country.
Hopefully.
i really wish that was true.
how long as soulja boy been #1 including this week
Exodus 10/17/2007, 3:20 PM U KIDDING ME? 1.6m downloads for Crank That?
OK, this jerk needs to go away NOW! Stop hogging the #1. And now he has a 30,000+ lead? This sucks.
Just to be a fanboy, but Utada has grossed 7 million downloads this year for "Flavor Of Life" for a much smaller country (Japan) and it's not even Top 50 on the world charts. :o
1-N-Only21 10/17/2007, 3:21 PM ^woah

Let us hope.
Oh and btw, aren't certifications for singles different than CDs? Like wasn't "Since U Been Gone" 5x platinum with like 2,000,000 in sales? I think 200,000 is gold and 400,000 is platinum for singles.
Rico Shameless v2 10/17/2007, 4:37 PM ^actually it's the same for albums now.
blackbeatxx 10/17/2007, 4:47 PM ^yup, the old cert´s was for physical singles
Rico Shameless v2 10/17/2007, 4:48 PM I think Britney will get up to at least 650,000 to 700,000 with "GM", unless the album release boosts downloads like it did for Soulja, but anyways I'm happy.
1-N-Only21 10/17/2007, 5:36 PM i will check and see if the chart is up....
Semáforo 10/17/2007, 5:41 PM Crank That will definitely be #1 this week, and possibly the week after as long as there aren't any major changes on iTunes. :(
But Apologize and Bubbly should both be #1 for a couple weeks, followed by No One, and then after that should be a song that we haven't heard yet/hasn't been announced as a single.
1-N-Only21 10/17/2007, 5:45 PM No Chart Yet

I think the single will have slightly more success than that actually... her song had a strong debut so now that the sales are going down from I-Tunes (she was number 1, now number 4), she fell a couple spots ... however ...
1. her radio play is still increasing so once radio catches up with the sales, she could definately rebound
2. her album comes out in two weeks, once that happens, expect a huge increase in sales for that single as people will buy the single, album, or both once it is released.

R`0`K`R 10/17/2007, 6:37 PM The Hot 100 is sort of boring right now. In November it's going to be very interesting with all the big stars releasing singles.

Tightrope 10/17/2007, 8:17 PM T-Pain is all over the place along with Akon and Soulja Boy, we just have to deal with it.
I'd like to see Timbaland #1 since he deserves it maybe the most, but I most wanna see Colbie shock everyone and take the top.
MusicIsGoodForYou 10/17/2007, 8:20 PM T-Pain is on 8 songs in the top 50. -_- I think he's good, but not THAT much!

R`0`K`R 10/17/2007, 8:26 PM I cannot believe Before He Cheats just rose up 4 spots again!! What the hell? It's awesome but how is this happening?
bobbymfw 10/17/2007, 9:18 PM i bet some songs did hit #1 on airplay only (with the old rules), or are there any?
i think the only song that did that was Aaliyah's "Try Again" back in 2000. Up until 1998 airplay-only songs weren't allowed on the Hot 100 so most lables just waited until songs reached their maximum radio airplay to release the singles commercialy so that the song would debut at #1...I can't think of all the songs that did that but I know Mariah's "Honey" was one of 'em. I think "Try Again" is the only song to reach #1 solely on airplay though.
Reeces 10/17/2007, 9:20 PM Big jumps for Jennifer Lopez and Carrie Underwood. Soulja Boy needs to **** off and let Timbaland, Colbie or Alicia get to number one.
Anthony K. 10/17/2007, 9:32 PM 3 6 SPEARS*BRITNEY GIMME MORE
- Anyone who thought she'd have a #1 hit was delusional. Competition is way too intense right now.
Not exactly delusional. I bet if she had promoted the song it could have a had a bit more radio support, more downloads and she could have hit #1. But knowing all that happened, a #3 hit is pretty spectacular.
P.S.: Btw, she could have hit at least #2 with the old rules, that changed last August.
1-N-Only21 10/17/2007, 10:01 PM Soulja boy's sells should rocket from Hip Hop Awards!!!!!!!!!!!
#1 for another week. hopefully.
Can't see Colbie getting #1, timbaland may fall next week in dowloads, won't come close to crank that but No One may jump Timbo & Colbie because it's expected to jump to #1 in airplay next week. Pretty Soon alicia may dethrone Soulja Boy
Semáforo 10/17/2007, 10:31 PM Not exactly delusional. I bet if she had promoted the song it could have a had a bit more radio support, more downloads and she could have hit #1. But knowing all that happened, a #3 hit is pretty spectacular.

I agree that Britney getting to #3 was amazing. I was glad for her in a way, that at least something positive was starting to happen to her. But for her to gain her second #1 ever, her first being her debut single, would just be way too much of a fairytale. That VMA performance put her in a really bad position, and with radio-dominators like Kanye West, Timbaland, and, dare-I-say-it, Soulja Boy going up against her, I think #1 is just too high of an expectation.
1-N-Only21 10/17/2007, 10:33 PM ^exactly
MC Steven 10/18/2007, 12:01 AM Timbaland should be #1 next week.
♥ Shakidrian ♥ 10/18/2007, 12:16 AM i hear a number 1 for Apologize.... or maybe Bubbly... anything other than Soulja Boy ...
V3$$3L. 10/18/2007, 12:58 AM "No One" takes big ***** on all of the top 3, including once great but now played tfo "Stronger".
However, **** **** **** Colbie Caillat. "Bubbly" is the most juvenile half assed excuse for a folky love song in a long time. Jewel needs to come back and show this bitch how it's done.
And the disposability of all these new (or breakout) artists is sickening me. I mean in one year we've had Mims, Yung Berg, Shop Boyz, Hurricane Chris, Sean Kingston, Soulja Boy, Lil' Mama, Plain White T's and Colbie Caillat, all of whom I KNOW won't be relevant 12 months from now. Where are all the career artists nowadays?
M Z N A 10/18/2007, 1:02 AM I agree that Britney getting to #3 was amazing. Her VMAs peformance didn't hurt anything, in fact, it gave the single more buzz, hence she went to number one on iTunes. The bolded part in your post doesn't make sense at all, what's so "unbelievable" about it? considering this is already her highest charting single since her debut. But as Anthony said, her number one single would've been guranteed if she was there to promote. The single went to number 3 with the word of mouth promotion, imagine how would it have been if she was actually promoting AND charting by the old formula (50% digital downloads).
Anyways, I'm glad that she's still in the Top 10. Hopefully her downloads/airplay will increase by the release of the album.
2hot2handle 10/18/2007, 1:22 AM timbo or alicia should hit number 1 next week.. then rihanna should crack the top ten by next week!
until the end of time should be atleast a top 20 hit!!!!
bobbymfw 10/18/2007, 1:23 AM ^promotion wouldn't have given her a #1, not even if the chart rules were the same as they were before August. London Bitch, you're delusional, come on! Britney might've made it to the top 2 but there's just no way she would've made it past Soulja Boy to have another #1.

you make so many great points, i agree with you about every one of those singers/rappers. i can stand Colbie, Sean, and Berg a bit more than the rest, but still--you're right, these are all lame excuses for musicians. i would never support them by buying their music. i don't even understand what all the hoopla over Bubbly is all about...I think people just need something refreshing, innocent, devoid of anything mildly offensive, after this onslaught we've been having of pathetic hip-hop trash.

Semáforo 10/18/2007, 8:59 AM Her VMAs peformance didn't hurt anything, in fact, it gave the single more buzz, hence she went to number one on iTunes.
VMA didn't help her at all. It just added to the string of bad press. The song got to #1 on iTunes because people liked it. That's all.
The bolded part in your post doesn't make sense at all, what's so "unbelievable" about it? considering this is already her highest charting single since her debut.
With current chart rules, certain artists that get spins on a variety of stations have an advantage. As I said before, Kanye West, Timbaland and Soulja Boy fit into multiple formats, so for Britney to be as high as she got is quite remarkable, but #1 is just too high considering the competition.
But as Anthony said, her number one single would've been guranteed if she was there to promote. The single went to number 3 with the word of mouth promotion, imagine how would it have been if she was actually promoting AND charting by the old formula (50% digital downloads).
Britney doesn't even need promotion. She's in the news everyday, and the media definitely mentions Gimme More and Blackout. Should she have performed the single more? Yes. Could she? That's harder, considering custody battles, drug tests, and the whole lot of it.

♥ Shakidrian ♥ 10/18/2007, 11:21 AM "No One" takes big ***** on all of the top 3, including once great but now played tfo "Stronger".
Where are all the career artists nowadays?
i think the only reason why... these artist even reach the top is only b/c everyone knows their albums suck... that they are one hit wonders... i mean people do use their heads and know that buying an entire album that has only 1 decent song is pointless...therefore they go ahead and just buy the single... that is why these artists that were mentioned had very low album sales overall... i mean i doubt anyone bought an album from Hurricane Chris..wtf... and since digital downloads make a large part on the hot 100 that is why they reach so high...

Rico Shameless v2 10/18/2007, 3:19 PM Britney wouldn't have made it to #1. No promotion, the single being at a disadvantage of being play only on top 40/pop stations while Soulja, Kanye, Timbaland all have urban, rhythmic, pop, top 40, etc. their audience would've been bigger no matter what.
Mazen is right though if released during the old format she would've went #1, since digital counted much more then.
M Z N A 10/18/2007, 3:35 PM VMA didn't help her at all. It just added to the string of bad press. The song got to #1 on iTunes because people liked it. That's all. .
I said it didn't HURT the single as people thought it would be, and all the bad press turned into an attention to the actual song.

Well, yeah of course she won't hit number one right now , but I was ASSUMING that if she promoted the single well then it would've gained much airplay in pop radio. And that would've also caused MORE people to buy the single digitally. A Number one on the Hot 100 didn't seem impossible to me. It's just an assumption though. But in the old formula, her number one was guranteed.
Britney doesn't even need promotion. She's in the news everyday, and the media definitely mentions Gimme More and Blackout. Should she have performed the single more? Yes. Could she? That's harder, considering custody battles, drug tests, and the whole lot of it.
It's true that Britney doesn't need promotion or else she wouldn't have even reached that number 3. But this type of promotion is less effective. Some people are that ignorant that they would refuse to buy certain artist's album/single because of the bad press pressure. And in fact, I believe that's why the single is not getting radio support anymore. Hopefully she will start promoting once the custody battle ends.

I highly doubt it would have made it to #1 going by the old rules too because her margin over Soulja Boy was relatively small for her two weeks on top of iTunes and airplay still counted enough to more than make up for the difference in sales between GM and Crank That.
p.s. if Crank That makes it to 7 weeks it will not only tie with Umbrella but with Irreplaceable also, which spent the first 7 weeks this year on top.
Rico Shameless v2 10/18/2007, 4:41 PM well that could be true. but it was Sean Kingston at #1 during the change, not Soulja. he came like weeks later after Fergie got a week.

She got 10 weeks in the UK I think and on the United World Charts, but 7 in the US.
Semáforo 10/18/2007, 6:00 PM I said it didn't HURT the single as people thought it would be, and all the bad press turned into an attention to the actual song.
I agree with that, but I do think that her VMA performance started the single "out on the wrong foot." It gave the assumption that Britney wasn't ready to get back out there (which I don't agree with, BTW). Just the fact that she lip-synced bothered people. If things had turned out differently, and she ended up doing a huge magic act with a live vocal performance, things might have turned out different, but it's all in the past now.
Without a doubt the old formula would've propelled her farther. From the way I perceived things, Britney's initial spins were out of curiosity. It was a huge comeback. Then people realized the song was good, and it kept getting more play at Mainstream. But unfortunately for Britney, she "walked in at the wrong time." When Gimme More was released to radio, there were other stuff going on (Kanye vs. 50, the rise of a Rihanna/Ne-Yo duet, etc.)
I can't find anything to argue here, because you hit the nail on the head. (I promise that is the last cliche I'll use in this post!!!) I believe that Britney is a genuinely nice person who's life was corrupted by the industry. It's terrible that it had to happen to her so young, but it can only make her stronger.

My bet is on avril lavignes girlfriend.
these three are her biggest competitors.
does anyone have girlfriends numbers this week?

23 23 Plain White T's Hey There Delilah 28566 -6 30487 2270552

42 49 LAVIGNE*AVRIL GIRLFRIEND 22819 -12 25830 2150299
so therefore its probly sold more then 2270552(which is Hey There Delilahs total)

i hope avril wins digital song at the billboard awards this year!!:)

shes definetly over 2 million by now. its been 26 weeks since shes been out of the top 50. and she definelty was probly selling less then 5 thousand for most of those weeks so therefore i believe avrils girlfriend is beating it. avril had almost 2.2 million when she fell outa the top 50 and that was only 7 weeks ago. beyonce had almost 1.9 million and that was 26 weeks ago. Id say digital lsong of the year is between Avril, Plain White Tees Beyonce and Fergie. If girlfriend doesnt get it i think Fergie will because its still selling 40-50 thousand a week. There is still 6 or 5 weeks left before all of the winners for this years billboards are tallied up.

1-N-Only21 10/24/2007, 6:25 AM Keys locks in No. 1 spot at radio
Alicia Keys' No One is No. One this week on the national radio airplay audience chart provided by Nielsen BDS, Arbitron and Radio & Records. Its eight-week journey to the top is among the quickest in chart history, and it made a mighty leap to No. 1, with an audience gain of 23% over last week.
Soulja Boy's Crank That falls to No. 2 after four weeks at No. 1, dropping 4% in audience, and is followed by two other declining records, Kanye West's Stronger and J. Holiday 's Bed. West's Good Life is moving up at No. 5, though (13% gain). Two more songs on the downslide, Timbaland's The Way I Are and Fergie's Big Girls Don't Cry, are at Nos. 6 and 7, followed by the week's two debuts in the top 10, Timbaland's Apologize and Chris Brown's Kiss Kiss. Pink's Who Knew rounds out the list.
More meticulous detail and absorbing chart facts follow.
> The annotated top 10:
1-5 last week Alicia Keys, No One (22.7% audience gain): Everything broke right for Keys, with Soulja Boy continuing to fall, J. Holiday collapsing at the right time, and No One itself accelerating (its gain this week was even larger than last week's not-inconsiderable +19.8%). The result was a landslide, as Keys accumulated nearly 9 million more audience impressions than Soulja Boy. Keys should reign for a while unless Kanye West's Good Life can mount a threat.
2-1 Soulja Boy, Crank That (-4.3%): Soulja Boy fought the good fight, cutting his decline in half compared to the previous week. Time to crank the volume down, though.
3-3 Kanye West, Stronger (-4.6%): Not eroding too fast, considering the onrush of Good Life, but it will be falling down the chart henceforth.
4-2 J. Holiday, Bed (-7.0%): Bed time's over. It made a good run at No. 1 last week, falling short by about 3.5 million impressions, but that's as close as it will get.
5-7 Kanye West, Good Life (+12.9%): Two songs in the top 5 is a notable achievement, and this one looks like a solid bet to zoom up to No. 2 next week, with three declining records ahead of it.
6-4 Timbaland, The Way I Are (-7.7%): Decline rate triples under pressure from newer hit Apologize.
7-6 Fergie, Big Girls Don't Cry (-3.7%): Navel-gazer extraordinaire rallies, relatively, cutting its audience decline in half. A deplorable incident that won't be repeated.
8-12 Timbaland, Apologize (+18.9%): Timbaland joins Kanye by placing two songs in the top 10, and this one is headed quickly for the top 5.
9-13 Chris Brown, Kiss Kiss (+18.2%): Still neck-and-neck with Timbaland, although Apologize pulled ahead slightly. Should be a good race. Since T-Pain is a guest vocalist on this track, that gives him two appearances in the top 10 (he's on Good Life as well), both guest shots. He guests on two other songs in the top 15 as well (Baby Bash's Cyclone and Plies' Shawty). Forward-thinking record executives may well commission remixes featuring T-Pain vocals for all songs in the top 15 that currently don't spotlight him -- I think he'd add a lot to, say, Colbie Caillat's Bubbly.
10-8 Pink, Who Knew (+0.2%): Despite the chart drop, Pink registers her second straight gain in audience. OK, so they're minimal -- +0.1% and +0.2% -- it's still the song that refuses to die. (Remember, this is its second time around promoted to radio.)
> Next week's top 10 contenders:
There may be only one spot open in the top 10 next week (Pink's), unless Fergie takes a nosedive. But there are only two real contenders right now: Justin Timberlake's Until the End of Time, which remained at No. 11 with a 3.4% gain (down from last week's 14.6%); and Colbie Caillat's Bubbly, up 15-12 with a 9.9% gain but still 6 million audience impressions below Justin. Coming up strong below them are Rihanna's Hate That I Love You (17-16 but up 16.3%), Fabolous' Baby Don't Go (22-18, +12.8%) and The Dream's Shawty Is a 10 (30-19, +24.2%). (I've seen The Dream's name (he's a solo artist, not a group, by the way) rendered The-Dream, and that gratuitous hyphen could easily qualify him for our list of most annoying artist-name contrivances.)
> Hottest songs of the week:
The Dream wins this honor, with a relatively low percentage gain, and Alicia Keys is second. I'm pretty sure I've never seen two records that have been around for eight weeks apiece atop this list -- it's usually reserved for songs in their second or third weeks, when mathematically a huge gain is much easier to accomplish. Coming in third is Trey Songz' Can't Help but Wait, up 21.1% in audience in its fourth week and 48-35 on the chart; and Soulja Boy's Soulja Girl, up 20.0% in its second week for an 88-70 chart move.
> This week's debuts on the top 100:
Six of 'em this week, including a big one: Mary J. Blige's Just Fine comes onto the chart at a highly impressive No. 69. Fergie's Clumsy is also strong, entering at 83. American Idol Jordin Sparks is doing fine with a No. 90 debut for Tattoo. Joe Nichols' Another Side of You is new at 96, LeAnn Rimes' Nothin' Better to Do comes in at 98 (must have been that Playlist Pick of the Week I gave it today. Right), and Paramore's Misery Business anchors the chart at 100.
And finally, not worth a subhead of its own but conceivably a bit of good cheer to many, Britney Spears' Gimme More loses 11% of its audience and falls 51-58, as radio finally says, "Gimme less."
http://blogs.usatoday.com/listenup/2007/10/keys-locks-in-n.html

Big Dreams 10/24/2007, 11:19 AM It's Chris Brown - Kiss Kiss vs Soulja Boy - Crank That. Chris was already #22 last week so there's a good chance he could steal the #1 spot. Like what Rihanna - SOS did when it was released to i-tunes it like jumped from #32 to #1. This is going to be really interesting

JerseyBoy 10/24/2007, 4:41 PM Finally someone knocks that bastard off the top!
RiIRi! might not be #1 this week :(
Britney's run is reminding me of BL: start off low, make BIG jump, peak 3, slowly fall, keeping falling
Rico Shameless v2 10/24/2007, 4:45 PM well "BL" fell really fast, Brit actually held for another week at #3.
JerseyBoy 10/24/2007, 4:47 PM yea i guess, but i was referring to the overall outlook, you know?
Rico Shameless v2 10/24/2007, 4:50 PM yea i know :)
Anthony K. 10/24/2007, 5:08 PM well "BL" fell really fast, Brit actually held for another week at #3.
Do you have the 'BL' stats, Rico?

It looks the same right now, but Brit still has the advantage of it possibly having a rise in d/ls when the album is released, also they might release remixes. plus if she begins promoting she might be stable.

but don't you find it so funny that after their peek, they both fell to 6? and i think this week GM might fall to 9,10,11

Tough fall for Britney but I think I saw this one coming.
Come on Colbie! Get to #1!
Rico Shameless v2 10/24/2007, 5:29 PM but don't you find it so funny that after their peek, they both fell to 6? and i think this week GM might fall to 9,10,11
not really. i do think it is having the same effect, but again she still has advantage to hold, meaning it won't just fall and fall and fall. it might stay in one place once it leaks the top 10 for a week or two, and fall gradually into the top 20 and so on.
add on Britney's singles never held up in the past so this doesn't surprise me. her songs usually peak and fall anyways.
OMG! YES SOULJA BOY DIDNT TIE UMBRELLA!
Yahhh! 10/24/2007, 5:47 PM :!omg: Are you sure???
Rico Shameless v2 10/24/2007, 5:59 PM how could he not? he is still gonna be #1 this week.
He will tie "Umbrella", but I'm sure this is his last week.
I could be wrong, let's hope I am.
JerseyBoy 10/24/2007, 7:35 PM not really. i do think it is having the same effect, but again she still has advantage to hold, meaning it won't just fall and fall and fall. it might stay in one place once it leaks the top 10 for a week or two, and fall gradually into the top 20 and so on.

Rico Shameless v2 10/24/2007, 10:28 PM Britney, Kanye, Alicia, Chris, Colbie, J.Lo, etc, ALL deserve more success than Soulja ****. Big Dreams 10/24/2007, 10:57 PM #1 for 7 weeks huh. It tying umbrella is not really big deal to me because umbrella wasn't that great it was only great when it had the remix with Chris Brown. Speaking of Chris Brown he will be #1 next week most likely. But what's really amazing on this chart is that Can't Help But Wait an amazing song has went top 50 and should go top 10.
Rico Shameless v2 10/24/2007, 10:57 PM ^obsessed.

Rico Shameless v2 10/24/2007, 11:01 PM how many songs from "Blackout" do ya'll think will debut?
My prediction: "Break The Ice", "Piece of Me", "Hot As Ice" (just b/c T-Pain would be listed as a composer), and maybe "toy soldier". POM would debut the highest because of the hype and talk it's been getting.
Big Dreams 10/24/2007, 11:01 PM Oh yeah that's right HTILY did go top 10 that's pretty awesome. Still to me not only the best collab of the year but best one of the best collabs of all time up there with Usher and Alicia Keys - My Boo and Nelly and Kelly Rowland - Dilemma

brian06 10/26/2007, 2:37 AM The default Lil Jon beat is back yet again in Cyclone, amazing that people keep buying the same song that just keeps getting worse every time. Hate That I Love You...generic "Ne-Yo" song that has the trademark Ne-Yo sound in the background, idk booooooooooooring. Good for Alicia, OneRepublic/Timbaland, Kanye, Colbie.
1-N-Only21 10/26/2007, 6:06 AM ^Lil Jon didn't produce that, man i would sue them for some money
