This month sees no less than nine Platinum Europe Awards, including five new entries for albums achieving their first million sales in Europe.

American band Black Eyed Peas gain the first Platinum Award for their latest album Monkey Business. This is the hip-hop quartet's fourth album and the first they co-wrote together after singer Fergie's arrival in the group. It includes hit singles Don't Phunk With My Heart, Don't Lie and My Humps, and features collaborations with Justin Timberlake, James Brown, Jack Johnson and Sting.

Depeche Mode's October album Playing the Angel has now sold over one million copies across Europe. This is the band's first album since 2001's Exciter. The electronic pop veterans have been recording for 25 years and have sold over 50 million records worldwide. The British band are resuming their world tour in the New Year, when they embark on a seven month set of European dates.

Eros Ramazzotti achieves his first Platinum Award for Calma Apparente. The October release has sold across 19 European countries, and gone eight times platinum in his native Italy. The Rome born star, now based in Milan, scored his first recording contract in 1981 after reaching the final of a talent contest with a self-penned song. Now 42, this is the tenth new album from Eros in his 24-year career.

Indie label success Katie Melua has sold one million copies of her second album Piece by Piece. The Georgian born singer songwriter was spotted by composer and producer Mike Batt when she was a pupil at the Brit School for Performing Arts, and he immediately signed her to his record label Dramactico. The talented 21-year-old was the UK's biggest selling female solo artist of 2004 with her debut album Call Off The Search.

Mariah Carey's comeback album The Emancipation of Mimi passes the million mark in Europe for the first time since its April release. Mariah has been releasing albums since 1990, but this critically acclaimed offering is her first since 2003's The Remixes. The American songstress has just received eight Grammy nominations Stateside, where her single We Belong Together is the most played song on the airwaves this year.

The hotly anticipated new album from Madonna, Confessions On A Dancefloor, has sold a remarkable two million copies across Europe within its first two weeks of release. This is yet another top-seller from the 47-year-old, who continues to thrill fans with her energetic performances and rejuvenated sounds. This album marks a return to her disco roots, and the first single release Hung Up - featuring a rarely granted Abba sample - has been a hit across Europe.

James Blunt's debut Back to Bedlam goes from strength to strength, having now racked up three million sales across Europe. This No. 1 album - fuelled by the success of breakthrough single You're Beautiful, gains its third Platinum Award of 2005 for the British artist who left the Army to pursue a music career.

Robbie Williams continues his success with Intensive Care, which has scored an impressive three million sales across Europe since its October release. The title has now gone gold in four countries and platinum or multi-platinum in twelve. Robbie's recently announced 2006 global tour broke the world record for the number of concert tickets sold in one day, with the 1.6 million seats selling out in a matter of hours.

Scottish band Texas, who have just released their latest studio album Red Book, notch up a fourth PEA for The Greatest Hits album. This 2000 release features well known hits from their popular White On Blonde era, including Black Eyed Boy and Say What You Want, as well as their first single release I Don't Want A Lover. The Glasgow band, formed in 1986 and fronted by Sharleen Spiteri, are planning UK gigs for next May.
